My name is Sharon Gough and I have been a qualified Play Therapist since 2012. I trained with Play Therapy UK (PTUK) and have been running my own business, The Family Fairy, since 2015. I began working in schools, both as a teacher and then as a play therapist, before moving to setting up independently. I have always worked in Cornwall, having volunteered as well with Barnardo’s as a Child Advocate and also working for a brief time with Action for Children as a Family Support Practitioner.
I use a child centred approach to my therapy work, integrating a variety of Play Therapy approaches and psychologies within the work I do. Building a trusting and secure relationship with the child is of paramount importance, so that the child feels truly heard and listened to through their play. Play is the language of the child and staying with the metaphor, and using symbolism, helps the child feel safe to explore their feelings through play, giving them an outlet, and a better understanding of the emotions they are experiencing. Through years of specialist training and working with children who find it hard at times to express their emotions, I am able to help children in their time of need.
My specialities centre around:
working with young children;
autistic spectrum disorders;
family relationship difficulties;
lack of self-esteem;
Referrals can be made by both parents and professionals. I work from my base in Par, where I have a dedicated therapy room.
