Play

Play is something that every child does for enjoyment.  It does not have to be planned, and there is no intervention as part of this activity.  Play is vital for children's healthy social, emotional and cognitive development.

It is often spontaneous, in the moment, and changes direction as the play develops.  Children will often play out experiences that they have had in day-to-day life, to make sense of them.

Children playing at lunchtime in the playground can be an example of this, or playing with their toys in their bedroom with friends.
